Coreform LLC has received a highly competitive Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to improve computational methods for biomedical device design. The grant supports research aimed at overcoming current limitations in how medical device behavior is modeled, particularly in cases where accurate performance predictions are vital for patient outcomes.
Coreform plans to refine its Coreform Flex solver to accommodate the complexities of biomedical engineering. As part of this initiative, the team will focus on improving simulation speed by incorporating new preconditioning techniques that build on DOE-funded MFEM technology. These enhancements are expected to streamline the design cycle for implantable medical devices, ultimately helping medical technology companies achieve faster, more reliable simulations.
The project will begin with an exploratory phase to validate new workflows for real-world medical applications. Coreform anticipates that these faster, more accessible simulations will encourage broader adoption of computer-aided engineering within the healthcare sector.
